Express lines
Introducing the EXPRESS network which provide a quick and safe link between Wallonia's towns and cities.
What exactly are Express lines?
From 1 October 2020, TEC, at the initiative of Minister of Mobility Philippe Henry, will complete work on its new structured network with a total of 31 lines grouped together under a single shared label: EXPRESS.
Intended as a complement to the existing rail network, these lines will allow you to travel between Wallonia's towns and cities quickly and safely.
The benefits
To help you stop using your car and use public transport instead, these 31 lines with one easy name – Express – will gradually provide a response on all the following criteria:
- Speed: these lines provide a more direct link between towns and cities in Wallonia and between some Wallonian industrial estates
- Comfort: these lines are mainly operated using comfortable vehicles
- Flexibility: to make it easier for commuters, students and others to get around, these lines run all day and all year round. Extra capacity is also added during peak hours
- Complementarity: these lines are complementary to the existing rail capacity. There are also SNCB connections arranged with Express lines in order to offer passengers the possibility of combining their Express line journey with a train to reach their final destination
- Price: the Express fare, which applies to all Express lines, allows customers to access the entire TEC Wallonia network, without any restrictions. Thanks to this integrated approach to fares, notably available with the MOBIB card, TEC is targeting its offer at pupils, students and commuters who will be able to benefit from the third party payer offer
- Serving points of interest: in addition to a connection with Walloon cities, the Express lines make it possible to reach business parks, centres of higher education, important tourist attractions and hospitals.
Express lines are easy to identify thanks to their name, which begins with the letter “E”. They will also gradually take on monochrome yellow colours, which will at the same time be deployed for all vehicles of the TEC network.
In addition, Express line stops are gradually being equipped with secure bicycle parking and/or a passenger shelter to improve comfort when waiting.
